So AI is now allowed on here?

I don’t think that AI posts should even be allowed on PurplePort, seeing as the actual AI photos are banned. What’s the point in discussing AI on here, the images are banned anyway.

One was awarded an FPI, that's where this discussion started. It's since been removed.

HotFridgePhotos a point of discussing it could be to help combat it. Many things are not allowed on PP much worse than AI but we cannot combat it without communication. Please don't take my thoughts as a lecture just sharing my thoughts. ;

FWIW that's the third AI image that I know has been selected for an FPI. I reported the other two. Both were removed. One was from a portfolio with dozens of them, and they were garnering a lot of likes, comment, and FPI suggestions. That account was removed. Cannot recall if the other 'single instance' AI account was.

FWIW again, the latest version AI image generator used well - and it's not easy, but def' achievable - is completely indistinguishable from photography at the resolution allowed on PP. Nobody can 'detect' it, including very experienced professional photographers and retouchers.

FWIW finally, it's going to keep happening here and all over. The shoddy efforts will be found out and removed. The slick efforts will never be perceived of as anything other than bona-fide camera-lens work. It is what it is, and there's no point in getting partisan about. It just 'is'.

Did you report the image?

Yes, as have others, but the fact it's been given an FPI makes worry about how many are tricked by this technology at such an early stage of its evolution.

Its the little elf's being tricked not the rest of us.

Little elf's hold your heads in shame they are breaking the site rules as well and so is the owner of this site for allowing it to happen.

There have been quite a few AI generated FPIs recently, or is that FP-AIs? ;-)

Not really sure what the posters of such content have to gain by uploading them - surely a portfolio is designed to show off your skills to those who may wish to work with you, not advertise a false impression of your capabilities.

In my opinion, it's time for PurplePort to employ Hive AI or similar algorithm into the image upload process (or at the very least the FPI queue).  If images are flagged as a high probability that they were created using AI, then the mods need to ask for RAW files or EXIF data before they are given an award.

Perhaps it would also be useful for the site to request from the poster to disclose whether the image has been wholly or fully created using AI elements when it is being uploaded, which would then preclude it from being added to the queue.  I'd also quite to see a little note on the image info that says that it has been created use AI.

However the overwhelming responsibility needs to lay with the people doing the posting and having a sense of fair play.  If you know you're cheating, upload your AI creations to a place they are welcome, not on PP which asks you not to.

I kind of like it when the limbs farthest from the camera are larger than those in the foreground - it's the greatest thing since Brunelleschi 😆

It's also fun when the limbs are different lengths and bend in unnatural ways - kind of surreal in a post-expressionist abstract way 🤣

That's the kind of AI artistic imagery I appreciate 😃 😎

Has more appeal than out of focus, tango skinned, badly lit real photography. ;)

It’s funny how some are completely appalled by AI images whereas completely sycophantic about some photos that are photoshopped to oblivion away from the reality of the original image. What’s the difference ?

Photoshopping to oblivion is artistic effort. Dubious artistic effort, but artistic effort nonetheless.

I would infinitely prefer some terrible spot-colour black and white photo with one bright red high-heeled shoe hooked in the model's knickers over any single AI photo.

And you should too. Bad art is better than soulless machine-generated pastiche selected from an array of options.

If anything AI ought to make us prouder and prouder of the outright beginners among us who still bother to learn to use their cameras and their editing software, instead of typing in a text description of a photo they wished they could take if they'd only put the effort in.

Now, is there a visual difference between overcooked photoshop skin editing and AI? Maybe not. But that's for the photoshop-nuke-handlers to worry about.

"One man's art is another man's graffiti". When you see someone's art, be it a drawing, a photograph, a piece of pottery, or a poem, whatever it is, that's them expressing themselves and their ideas. In the same way, some express themselves through singing or in their fashion. It would be rude to tell someone their singing is rubbish or to walk up to a stranger and say their fashion sense is horrible; you wouldn't do it. Everyone is entitled to their voice; we all have our lives, and we're all on our own journey. I like to hear everyone's voices, and I love to see everyone's art. I don't believe art has to be one way; art, in its very nature, is about free thought and passion.

That being said, I understand AI is banned, and that's fine, of course. But everyone wants to perfect their art in one way or another. Some get upset if people use Photoshop because it's somehow cheating—it's not a true photograph. Then they spend their weekends photographing models in professional makeup, in a professional studio, with wind machines, artificial lighting, backdrops, and reflectors, etc., etc., etc. You know, because it's 'real' natural photography." just saying :-P
