I’ve been wanting to work with Alan for a while now and as we both avidly follow one another’s work via Instagram we had been meaning to work together. Yesterday we finally got that chance! Alan had one of his awesome wacky ideas and pitched it to me, I have to say, it’s not every day a model gets such creativity like this from a photographer and Alan certainly doesn’t let the side down when it comes to thinking outside of the box! A lovely gentleman and very down to earth so instantly easy to worn with. Very much cares about making sure his models are well looked after and even brought snacks and drinks for the shoot, made sure I was kept warm and well rested and was generally a pleasure to work with. We got some fabulous imagery on the day and I can’t wait to see what Alan does with them! I highly recommend Alan to models of all levels, you’ll have the best time!

Ballerina Erica Mulkern

Had a wonderful shoot today with Alan. This was my second time working with him but this time it was a very different environment.

I invited Alan to photograph some BTS of a dance rehearsal and he was brilliant. He needed minimal direction and was very creative. We are delighted with the images and can't wait to share them. Alan is so kind and very easy to get along with. Highly recommend :)

I had the pleasure being booked in to work a two hour session with Alan during the Lip and Liner event. I can’t fault this man’s camera skills and god given talent. Almost as soon as he fired the first shot I was show how a great artist does it. Pure perfection and insane knowledge and understanding of light and it’s intensity. Every image felt like it could pass as the best one and that is the working of a pure genius. His accuracy and adaptability throughout shoot was impeccable which meant we could shoot a lot of different looks and set ups under a very small time frame. He has a confidence about him when he works. Very friendly and chatty but also know exactly what shots he has in mind and where necessary he will tell you how to switch up the pose or where to look in relation to the light.

Incredibly happy with all the edits I have so far and look forward to see what’s to come! Would absolutely recommend and hope I get to work with him again in the future.

I had a pleasure working with Alan this summer . I can’t recommend him enough! He’s an amazing photographer with many years of experience that you can see while looking at his gallery. He’s so professional and his artistic soul shines throughout the shoot . I felt very comfortable and his very good and clear with his directions. I’m so happy with my final images. I shot with Alan at a unique location in Manchester as part of a duo shoot with another model. Alan is very professional and made me feel comfortable throughout the shoot. He was super understanding and considerate as to how i felt about the images afterwards (as this was one of my first underwear shoots). Very friendly and easy to talk to. Would definitely recommend. Look forward getting the chance to work with him again sometime.

I was lucky enough to work with Alan and his lovely daughter at Zavod on the studio day I recently hosted!

Alan and his daughter were both lovely, lot's of fun and very creative. They had even bought lovely outfits for me to wear and lot's of props!

I had a great time shooting with Alan, I absolutely loved the images I was shown during our shoot. Alan is a very talented photographer with lot's of creativity and enthusiasm.

Thoroughly enjoyed working with Alan (and his Daughter!) recommended by me and would happily work together in the future.

First time working with Alan today Guy's.

So here is my reference.

Firstly Alan approached me about a shoot and it was very detailed so it left me with no questions other then needing to Answer Yes to Availability of Said date.

Secondly all pre comms after agreeing to the booking was excellent kept in touch and was only a short response away if needing any more information.

Now to the working part.

Alan comes packed with a lot of gear.

He is professional and friendly.

Understands lightning setups very well.

Gives out good suggestions when he feels the need for a specific shot etc.

Overall this was a great experience of working with Alan for a first time.

Comes very recommended if he asks to book you.

I shot with Alan yesterday on location, initially shooting in Sheffield city centre however due to the rain took shelter in a well known walking spot just outside of Sheffield, the rain eased and we shot in the woods very picturesque location, Alan was very considerate and brought not only outfits to use, towels and even a hand warmer.

The shoot was great and we got lucky with the weather it was only light rain and mostly sheltered by the trees, we got through 3/4 sets shooting from 3pm - 7pm, I felt very comfortable during the whole shoot and looking forward to working with Alan again on on a creative concept next month.

I’ve just had a fantastic shoot with the Alan. I’ve done gel work before, but never on this level. His ability to craft light is superb. Any model working with him can be confident that he will elevate their look and the material they give him to work with. Had another fabulous shoot with Alan! This time a prince inspired shoot at atlas studios!

Pre communications were perfect! Knowing exactly what the shoot was going to be. Within a handful of messages! He has such a creative eye not just behind the camera but in styling and putting together concepts! It’s such a pleasure and joy to be apart of the process!!

Alan is super easy to work with! And is relaxed in his approach, letting you pose freely, but still super creative with lots of ideas to put across.

Very professional and highly recommended! And look forward to working with him again! The images came out fabulously too!!

Alan is more than a photographer, he is a creative. If you're craving some creative inspiration, I can't recommend him enough. If you have lists of concepts and ideas but don't know how or who could pull them off, I can't recommend him enough. Highly talented and treats his models like equals, both as a human and collaborator in creating art. This was my first shoot and more were and will be booked in the future. Looking forward to working with him again, if you haven't already worked with him, do!

I cannot recommend Alan strongly enough. Everything about our shoot together went above and beyond, from the aesthetic concept to the magnificent set he constructed, from the considerable help he gave me to getting the styling right to his technical fluency with the camera. What a lovely, creative, affable, and intelligent photographer. Work with him now, immediately, say yes to everything he asks of you, it will be totally totally worth it. If PP let you rate photographers out of 5 I would give him 6 stars.

Had my first and hopefully not last shoot with Alan yesterday .

Alan had contacted me with some great ideas he had for a shoot in January . However , a last minute idea and chance and we shot today .

Alan is a lovely , personable , highly intelligent and interesting person . Also his knowledge and love of rock bands is similiar to mine so I knew it would be a great shoot 🤘🏻😊

He knew exactly what images he was looking for and gave good directions toon whilst talking me through what was happening with each shot .

Today, he attended a modeling day with Ellie Mae as he booked one of the two our slots.

Alan was great as usual. Very creative and up for experimenting and trying something new - even if it didn't always work, he always found a solution to make it work.

Can't wait to have a reason to invite him back to be honest!

Shot with Alan for the first time today, he has offered to step in as I had a shoot cancellation and it has been so easy to arrange today's shoot even though we only had about 12 hours to talk ideas!

Like I said, excellent communicator, Alan also comes with great knowledge in how to use professional lighting equipment and totally not afraid to experiment.

You can see that Alan is genuinely interested in photography from his posts on Instagram - he has a lot more work on there (@silkhatstudio) and it's not just models. He photographs events, steampunk gatherings, cars, landscape, architecture and more.

He may not have many references on here but I can reassure you he is a sound chap and total gentleman looking to build his portfolio.
