this is Frog hopper. , this is one of the Cercopis species , Frog hoppers are usually green or green blue in colour , very small 3/4 mm in length , but this chap is about twice that size and very smart with his black and red checkering , the Laval stage of Frog hoppers produce a frothy mass as protection , usually referred to as Cuckoo Spit , the arrival of the Cuckoo and the Laval stage of the insect both occurring at about the same time , the Cuckoo has been calling just by the studio all this morning since first light , he has been here for about three weeks now , a wonderful sound of early Summer
