Experiment in nostalgia, a personal memory. Aged 16, at my all boys school, took a C.S.E. in Art, and we displayed our works along the corridors to be judged by outside assessors. I was permitted to paint a large picture, over some weeks, on the wall near the library. That summer saw my fame/infamy spread quickly among the other schoolboys and the staff. My painting showed "sky-clad" witches worshipping Baphomet, the infernal Goat of Mendes. The year was 1969, and I had just read "The Devil Rides Out" by Dennis Wheatley and seen the Hammer Horror film of the same title at the ABC Cinema (no proof of age ever asked for there - teehee!) Ah 1969, when "The News of the World" weekly exposed satanic covens, the Beatles broke up, a man skipped in moondust, the Kray twins went directly to jail, Concorde boomed across the sky, I left school and ceased my Saturday & evening job in the freezer butcher's shop (while girlfriend number 4, taught me things I couldn't learn at my all boys school) and all played out to the tracks of Fleetwood Mac, Small Faces, Simon and Garfunkel, Cream and The Beatles. Oh, what a time it was to be a tender and callow fellow!
