45212 is from a class of locomotive that lasted until the very end of steam on the national network. The locomotive is one of 18 preserved ‘Black 5’s and from a batch that moved straight out of mainline service into preservation.
The engine has worked at various times throughout its preservation career on the KWVR but has also worked away from ‘home’ and currently is mainline certified, having operated from the south of England to the West Highland line in Scotland.
