Solveman had a problem with a creased background and asked for ideas how to fix it. This is a very quick 5 minute fiddle to demonstrate just one way of doing it. The masking and blending are very rough as I just wanted to demonstrate the principle of how it could be done.

There many ways to do things in Photoshop and I think thee is a better way but can't recall it at present, for those interested this is the method used.

Method

Duplicate the subject layer

Add a solid fill layer in between using a dark grey colour selected from the background.

Gaussian blur the top layer till the wrinkles are smooth but some slight texture is left.

From the bottom subject layer select the model and make a mask so the model is black and the background is white.

Move this mask to the Grey Fill Layer and duplicate it to the Top Blurred Subject Layer. The Bottom Subject Layer now has no mask. I did it this way so that the mask did not get blurred when blurring the top layer.

Go to the mask on the Grey Fill Layer (the middle layer) and paint black on the foreground to reveal it.

Go to the Top Subject Layer and reduce the opacity to allow some of the Grey Fill Layer below to come through. In this case it was reduced to 84%

I put Curves Adjustment layers on the Grey Fill Layer and the Bottom Subject Layer just to tweak the balance a little. If I was doing a full retouch I would adjust the curves for skin tone and highlight and shadow especially as the skin now looks lighter being on a darker background.

I hope that helps.
