What do you prefer, Group Shoot or 121!

I prefer one-to-one. This allows the model and myself to establish a rapport. I think this is a necessary element.

I prefer one to one as you get a better rapport with the model and I work to mood boards.

I mainly shoot from home or around where I live but do go to studio days normally doing a two hour one to one slot.

I suppose following on from the OP question

What about remotes to work with models you might not get a chance to work with?

1-2-1   - unless there is some amazing shoot - such as Stately mansion and couture dresses :)

There's more choice really, 1:1 on model days, group shoots, camera club shoots, attending well organised events and arranging your own individual shoots.

I like to shoot my own individual arrangements both studio and location.

As someone relatively new to shooting models group shoots have been a way in. Did a lighting course / small group shoot last weekend and really worked well and I learned a lot. Going forward I'm sure I'll shoot one to one but I want to have confidence I can plan the lighting and not rely to much on studio help.

Definitely not for me. Can't see the appeal at all

It's properly written 1:1 anyway - it's a mathematical ratio.

That's only fractionally shorter.

I enjoy both. And certainly when first starting out i was very happy being in the company of other photographers, studio owners etc so that i could learn from them. A 121 shoot is the ideal these days. That way you can work together to get the shots that you want. But i still enjoy attending group shoots as well. Its just great to get out with my camera either way to be honest.

I don't like group shoots. I've done holidays and Tabitha Boydell Photographic Events which have offered something that made spending time with other photographers OK.  But a studio scrum with other people, generally it brings out the worst in everyone, me included. People who a tolerable without a camera in their hands become real swine when they start shooting.

Art Asylum Reloaded Photo Studio even with a remote shoot , I don't see it as actually working with the model. Until you have met the model in your presence you are having a relationship with a screen.

There are benefits from group shoots, events, and model days etc is that you've got everything provided, mostly set up for you so less chance of disappointment and cock ups, budget control, you meet other people too. They are a good choice for many and you're under no obligation to produce.

That said, everyone else has similar images and there's no time to get creative. If you want to do your own styling, use a mua, invest in wardrobe etc then doing your own thing is the way forward. If you do this on a TF basis you also have to produce, and the overall cost is far greater than attending a group shoot/model day/event in most cases.

It isn't just either/or.

What do models think?
