Late cancellations

Six pages on, I have to ask how much of a problem this really is. Are last-minute cancellations that common?

With most photographers being on the old side we can be regarded as high risk for being under the weather quite easy, Now if the models on here cannot see that and don't expect to get the odd late cancellations they shouldn't be modelling.

It doesn't matter what they put on here about the late cancellation and how much they want paying without a real name and address how would they get you into court, I think they are peeing up the wrong tree.

I think it’s a perfectly reasonable thing to put on a models profile as it perhaps might dissuade a less than reliable photographer from making a booking.

That’s not the sort of photographer who visits and posts on this forum generally speaking before anyone gets defensive.

From chats with various models I’ve worked with over the years it certainly is an issue - one cancellation a week could be the difference between it being a viable career for them or not.

Little story for you.

I had a model who was due to shoot last Sunday. She asked to reschedule by texting me on the morning of the shoot, citing poor mental Health.

So, we agree Thursday.

Thursday morning, I wake up to a text starting with the word "Sorry" - now she needs to move to Saturday as she has to dog sit or something. Reluctantly, I agree.

Saturday comes and she doesn't respond to any Comms at all in regards to giving me a pickup location.

This morning she finally got in touch, saying she lost her phone on Friday and has only just got it back on Sunday morning.

Now obviously I didn't believe her one bit, that's before I realised that she was able to post to Instagram on Saturday morning. She didn't think to reach out on that platform, or indeed PurplePort where she started a new account earlier this year in order to expunge a string of DNS'. She tried to convince me she was now serious. What a fool I was.

However those of you who like to play at MI5 will already know there's a happy ending to this story. I was speaking to other model but her only window was yesterday. I took a calculated gamble that this other model was not going to show, so moved her a little later - to which she agreed before she "lost" her phone - in order to accommodate the model that I eventually shot with. If she showed up I could fit her in, if not I have an afternoon free but I've not turned a model away to accommodate one who didn't show, leaving me without a model for the day.

And had a much better and much more productive shoot with some fantastic results.

So in the end it worked out just fine!

That's great you had a fantastic shoot. Did you leave a DNS for the other model?

So why on earth did you book her in the first place?

There would be no reason for forum drama if he hadn't?

I have a shoot on Tuesday.

Sent the model her trainfare ahead of the shoot.

She'll turn up. We'll have a great shoot.

No, I haven't shot with her before. But I'm fussy who I book to shoot with, and I can't be bothered with drama. I'm here to take pictures.

That's great you had a fantastic shoot. Did you leave a DNS for the other model?

I'm blocked, so I can't see, but my guess would be no...

Ditto. He blocks all the best people :-)

Should one of us start a thread "Photographers what are your top tips for getting models to no show", because the king of blocks has a talent for it.

I'm blocked by calmnudes & James1 , not complaining but I'm aware James apparently blocked calmnudes. You'd think at least 2 of the 3 would get on but obviously there's no science to blocking.
