We had the pleasure of staging our first Film Noir Workshop at our OpenSpace studio recently with the amazing duo Retro Rob and Melany as our models for the event.

Rob and Melany a really wowed the participants with their period clothing, acting skills and their awesome knowledge and understanding of the genre. Their warmth and friendliness in fully supporting the participants with their own ideas and concepts really contributed to making the day a success and we can't recommend them highly enough.

I had a shoot with Rob and another model for a themed workshop. Rob was very friendly from the moment I arrived which was great. As the workshop involved teaching, this involved the models having to be on set whilst we built up lighting effects and he was patient with this process and then able to switch into pose mode at a moments notice. He was very willing and able to act out the scenarios devised by the photographers and the whole day flew by in a flash. I had seen some of Rob's work before and was keen to shoot with him and now that I have, I cant wait to do so again.

My second shoot with Rob, this time in a studio, Open Space studio in Market Harborough. We were learning the techniques of Film Noir, and Rob certainly looked the part perfectly, as did Melany, his duo partner.

What I love about Rob is his ease of posing, just a subtle change here and there and another great picture saved to the memory card.

Looking forward to my next shoot with him!

I attended a workshop event on “Film Noir” at OpenSpace Studio where Rob was one of the models.

Undoubtedly this was somewhat removed from the usual form of event for Rob as it involved breaks in modelling while the photographers were told about the history of “Noir” photography. The practical aspect of the workshop then centred around teaching “on set” with a certain amount of waiting around while the photographers experimented with how small changes to the lighting positioning affected each shot. Rob readily took on the scenarios devised by the photographers and easily threw himself into character with great expression and emotion.

He was great to work with and easy to get along with.

I would be very happy to shoot with Rob again.

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Melany and Retro Rob at a tango group shoot at the Open Space studio.

Melany and Retro Rob worked well as individuals and as a team, Their moves and expressions told a convincing story. We had a fantastic shoot and captured some great shots.

The Open Space studio was warm and inviting and a lot of work had gone into the set. Alan and Alison kept us supplied with Teas and Biscuits, and kept the models in the spotlights whilst posing.

I attended an evening Tango Bar Group Shoot at OpenSpace Studio with Retro Rob and Melany.

Rob was very welcoming with his warm friendly personality. His costumes are utterly amazing and so authentic looking and immaculate. His posing is effortless, he has his own superb poses and also can naturally slip into being directed and immediately understands the expressions needed to match the pose. His attention to detail is superb.

Rob and Melany just gel perfectly together and both came with a great selection of outfits. They also happily accepted working with an extra prop when requested.

It made for a magical evening and of course I thoroughly recommend working with Retro Rob.

As soon as I saw Rob's photos here on Purpleport I knew I had to photograph him.

I arranged a two location shoot in London with Rob, the first one went ok, then we headed off to the second location, and that's when things really clicked, with a bit of improvising we got some really great shots and the time just flew by.

If you're inexperienced with photographing models, then Rob is great because he knows how to pose and comes up with great ideas, but he also takes directions well and is easy to work with.

I highly recommend Rob and we're already planning our next shoot.

I don’t know where to start with this reference except WOW! What a fantastic guy Rob is, so full of Charisma and charm that you immediately warm to him. With regard to his ability as a model, all that Charisma come through in bucket loads. He is brilliant at posing in the right way for era he is working in, and his vintage styling is second to none. I can’t recommend enough working with him and I absolutely can’t wait to work with him again. Book this guy and you will get some stunning shots without question.

I had such a fantastic studio day with Rob at Inspire Studio. We mainly did vintage looks with some art nude. Rob is such a delight to work with, his energy is amazing and the photographers all warmed to him immediately.

He is such a gentleman, funny, creative and full of fresh ideas and enthusiasm. He is as positive and productive with his last shoot of the day as he is with his first. He is so hard working and cares enormously about the photographers and making sure that they’re happy with what they capture.

I truly believe Rob is unique and his modelling skills and talents are like no other. A shoot with Rob guarantees you high quality, stunning images that will be nothing like any in your portfolio plus you’ll have a fantastic time shooting with him.

After many months of wanting to shoot with Retro Rob, I at last had the opportunity to photograph Rob and M E L A N Y today.

The wait was definitely worth it - I had an amazing time with them both and came away with shots I could only dream of.

Firstly, we met Rob just before the shoot and what a fantastic person he is - great to talk to, friendly and warm, with a brilliant sense of humour - immediately I knew that a great session was ahead of me, and indeed it was.

As expected, he is totally professional and such a pleasure to work with - he has his own superb poses but equally happy to be directed. He and M E L A NY are the perfect team, totally complementing each other.

I know that I will be working with Rob again and recommend him to any photographer.

I had starting following Rob about 2 yrs ago just waiting for that opportunity to arrive when I could finally get to work with him. It finally arrived and it was going to be a location shoot. Rob was very keen to work with me on some of my ideas which would be on location. Pre-shoot communications were excelent with bath messages and telephone conversations between us would make so we both knew what we were doing. On first meeting we immediately hit it off and then were able to get down to some work which involved story telling which Rob certainly did not disappoint even after he had been up in the early hours to get to me. Hid detail is exceptional and need very little direction and also inputting his ideas to make a fantastic shoot from which we got the images we had discussed.

Very Highly recommended and hopefully won't be 2 yrs before we work together again. Thanks for a great day

What a wonderful model! Rob was great in terms of pre-comms, showed up on time and was a pleasure to work with. He gave his best to every shot, which resulted in some wonderful atmospheric images. Models well with and without directions. He really enjoyed when I explained things about properties of light and composition -- it's clear that he deeply cares about the outcome. Will shoot again!

We (AlanJ & FemmeArt) finally had the pleasure of working with duo, Retro Rob and Melany, after having had them in our sights for some time, and what a pleasure it proved to be, too!

Their communications are excellent and both Rob and Melany turned up with superb costumes which fitted the themes perfectly and, we really must say, their attention to detail is second to none. We were also massively impressed, and touched, by the amount of research they did previously in order to give us the very best which they did in spades!

They proceeded to absolutely wow us, not only with their obvious beauty but with their abundant creativity, witty intelligence, considerable acting abilities and their utter commitment to the projects presented. Oh, and if this isn't enough....Rob and Melany are two of the nicest people to work with, appreciative, courteous and generous of spirit and anybody who hasn't worked with them yet is missing a very big trick indeed!

We just can't recommend them highly enough. Thank you Rob and Melany :)

Yesterday saw a second shoot with Rob. Essentially a continuation of our first meeting with Melany.

Shooting at the spacious Cottage Studio which offers all that was needed for the great shapes and poses that the two can form. We worked a good number of different sets from low key shapes through to some themed vintage looks. Impeccable attention to detail to the vintage styling.

We didn't cover all the elements as discussed in precomms (there were many) - but the collaborative approach allowed us all to come away with images that none had envisaged prior to the day. Robs enthusiasm did not falter throughout the day - even when we had to draw the line at one of his ideas (we'll make sure we have the required props next time). Further shoots to follow I think.

If you've not worked with Rob, either solo or with Melany - why not?

I just completed two full days shooting with Rob and enjoyed every minute of it!

I’ve worker with Rob many times before but it never ceases to amaze me how much attention to detail he pays to his vintage outfits and styling. He has plenty of original and brilliant ideas and is very creative whilst being super easy to work with and lots of fun.

He puts everything into his shoots and his enthusiasm and energy never tires. It was a delight to see him working with new photographers and making them feel instantly at ease.

I honestly don’t think there is a model who does vintage better, if you want a really enjoyable shoot with a model who looks like he’s stepped out of the 40s and who is very expressive and adept at story telling then look no further!

I've lot count how many times I've now shot with Rob but each time gets more and more enjoyable! We had a day booked at the awesome Open Space studio and as always Rob arrived with suitcases full of authentic vintage outfits and looks, bags of energy and enthusiasm and lots of creative ideas!

The 8 hours flew by and we covered looks from the tango through to art nude and gangsters. Rob works so well as part of a team and brings out the best in everyone. He's incredibly photogenic and versatile - able to covey such emotive expression and story telling in his vintage work whilst also being able to hold strong and dramatic poses in art nude to show case his awesome physique.

He is friendly, professional and a joy to be around - if you haven't worked with him then I highly recommend that you do as the quality of images that he produces are next level! Thank you Rob I can't wait until next time! :)
